Increase your Creativity!
Creativity is the use your imagination to think out side of the box and solve problems or create something new. Some people may consider themselves extremely creative and others may think they were never blessed with that gift. But I assure you, you can be creative or increase your creativity! Why would you want to? Creativity can improve your mood, increase your self esteem, alleviate stress and anxiety and help you become a better problem solver.
Here are five ways to boost your creativity and break any creative blocks.
1. Find inspiration from different sources. Don't copy other peoples work, but look at it for inspiration. It can be someone in the same field as you or from somewhere entirely different. Sometimes I get inspired by movies, the colors of an image, costume designs, advertisements, books or music.
2. Flow charts and word connections. Lets say I want to do a session in the water. I can scribble a graph of everything that comes to mind with the topic of water. Ocean, lake, fish, blue, glass of water, boat, raft, mermaid...you get the idea. From there I will take it further and break those into different categories and soon I can find myself with tons of different ideas that are far from my original basic thought.
3. Break the rules...as in think outside of the box, not go and rob a grocery store. Rules or what "should be" can be the #1 stifler of creativity. Don't stop at normal, or what should be. Push through the fear of rejection and failure and go further than you think you should.
4. Practice! That may seem like an easy example, but it will help you push those boundaries on more important projects. Everyday make something that no one will see. That will release the pressure of having to make something great and allow you the freedom to make mistakes and experiment.
5. Last one! Get outside for a walk and just let your brain wander. Anytime you start to think about work, the argument with your spouse or what object dog just ate, stop and focus on the clouds, or the textures and colors around you. You want this to be a relaxing experience that brings in new ideas.
So there are five things I use to grow new ideas. Do you have anything that works well for you? Leave a message in the comments below!
